Gathering together in Christ

For more than 10 years there has been a meeting in the St Mary's Parish rooms each month of parishioners of St Augustine’s and St Mary’s to read a chapter of the Old or New Testament. We do so to help develop our own understanding of Scripture and to learn more about God’s actions in the world on which our faith is based. In an informal and leisurely way we discuss the chapter, put it into its historical perspective and question and sometimes explain its difficulties. We try to investigate how it supports and strengthens our faith in and relationship with Jesus Christ.

A volunteer leads the meeting and prepares the material in advance. So far we have worked our way through the four gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Book of Ezekiel, the story of David in the two books of Samuel, St Paul’s letter to the Romans and we are now looking at the gospel of John for a second time.

We enjoy coffee, good biscuits, friendship and the opportunity to be together in silent, spoken and on one occasion, sung prayer.

We meet every first Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm and finish between 8.30 and 9.00 pm. Everybody is very welcome. If you wish for more information, get in touch with Denis Smith; 01235 765564; djbm.smith@ntlworld.com
