Mass at Hendred House.JPG

Hendred House

Chapel of SS. Amand & John Baptist

This Chapel, the only chapel in the country dedicated to the 7th Century missionary bishop S. Amand, and which gives its name to our fabulous village primary school, dates to the 13th century. There is a Bull of Pope Alexander IV authorising John de Turbeville to erect a private chapel on his manor in East Hendred. This makes it one of the, if not the, oldest continually-functioning Catholic chapels in the country. Before S. Mary's was built in 1865, this was where Catholic villagers would come to hear Mass.

It's a tremendous privilege still to be able to offer the Holy Sacrifice here today, as we do every Friday, at 8.30am.
